줄거리

교사발령을 기다리며 시를 쓰던 젊은이인 남자(이덕화)는 친구를 만나러 까페에 갔다가 그 까페를 경영하는 착한 여자(이보희)와 가까워진다. 둘은 서로의 공통점을 찾으면서 친밀한 감정을 느끼게 되고 남자가 학교 발령을 받자 곧 결혼하게 된다. 그러나 결혼생활은 달콤한 것만은 아니었다. 장남인 그와의 결혼은 맏며느리로서 시부모와 시동생들, 그리고 그들의 아이들을 모두 보살피며 살아야 하는 가난하고 고된 농촌생활의 고충은 적지 않은데...

Jong-hwan, while waiting to be assigned as a teacher, meets Su-kyung in a cafe where he was writing a poem. They marry soon after. He barely notices his wife's hardships, having to deal with his mother, siblings and children and living in a country village. His wife inevitably gets ill and he realizes too late how serious her condition is. He expresses his guilt and love for his wife in his poetry but soon she succumbs to her illness and dies.
