줄거리

성기(남승민)는 집으로 돌아와, 지원병으로 북지에 나가 전사한 형 성천의 영정 앞에 고개를 숙이고 있다. 부모가 허락하지 않는 여자 문제로 집을 나갔다 돌아온 차남 때문에 아버지는 어머니에게 화를 내고 동생 청자(김신재)는 안타까워한다. 금숙(문예봉)과 동거 생활을 하던 성기는 형의 전사 소식을 듣고, 아이가 생겼다는 얘기를 듣지 못 채 금숙을 떠난 것이었다. 성기는 그간 뒤를 봐주던 작은 아버지(독은기)를 찾아가 형의 뒤를 이어 지원병이 되기로 결심했다고 말한다. Seong-gi (Nam Seung-min) is back home and bowing his head in front of the photo of his older brother Seong-cheon, who died while fighting in the war. The father is angered at his younger son, who chose to run away from home when his parents opposed the girl he was seeing. He takes it out on his wife and this upsets his younger sister Cheong-ja (Kim Shin-jae). Seong-gi had moved in with Geum-sook (Moon Ye-bong) but when he hears about his brother’s death, he leaves her without knowing that she is pregnant with his child. Seong-gi goes to his uncle (Dok Eun-gi) who had been watching after him until then and tells him that he will volunteer to serve in the army, to follow his brother’s footsteps.
