난시청 A blanket area

촛불집회에는 많은 카메라가 있었다. 나는 카메라를 든 사람 중의 하나였지만, 내 카메라는 햇빛이 있는 낮에만 촬영할 수 있는 필름카메라였다. 해가 짧았던 6월 초, 나는 촛불의 행진을 찍지도 못했고, 물대포 현장도 찍지 못했다. 밤에는 소형 녹음기를, 낮에는 8mm 카메라를 들고 내가 볼 수 있는, 들을 수 있는 것만 기록했다.

There were so many cameras at the Candle Demonstration in 2008. I also had a camera but I could only shoot at daytime because I brought a super 8 film camera. I could never film the candle or water bomb parades in early June when the daytime was not so long. I made a record only I could hear and see with a small voice recorder for the night and super 8 cameras for the day.


죽은 개를 찾아서 Searching for Dead Dogs

할머니 집에선 개들이 죽어나간다. 왜일까? 나는 이 미스터리와 함께 할머니의 삶과 역사 속으로 들어간다. 나는 외할머니의 역사가 어떻게 나와 만나고 있는지, 나는 그로부터 무엇을 어떻게 배우고 나아갈 수 있는지에 대해 질문했다.

My grandmother’s home has a mystery. Whenever my grandmother takes care of a dog, it dies. This project explores essayistic personal documentary film as an artful, moving, humanly rich form, following the track of grandmother’s life story. It starts in a funny, mysterious, and fictional situation but suddenly meets political and historical issues with a different kind of logic.


재구성의 경로들(유관순 프로젝트) Unfinished Work

한국전쟁을 거치며 쏟아진 유관순 전기는 남성 부재 상태에서 여성의 규범을 바로잡으려는 남성적 필요에 의해서 재구성되었으며, 군사정권이 조국의 비극성을 상징하는 인물로 초등학교 교정마다 동상으로 등장시켰지만 음험한 괴담이 유포되었다. 유관순은 식민지의 수난과 저항을 대표하는 여성 영웅이지만, 침탈당하는 육체의 주인인 그의 발언은 들을 수가 없다. 주체로 여겨지기보다는 대상화되며 저항은 사라지고 가부장적인 권위와 식민주의적 통제가 여성의 위치를 재구성한다. 왜 우리는 여전히 유관순 ‘누나'를 잘 알고 있을까?
