줄거리

망국의 기운이 감돌기 시작한 1894년도의 조선. 한학에 전심하던 20세의 청년 이승만(김진규)은 나라와 겨레를 위해 신학을 배우려고 배재학당에 입학해 학업에 전념한다. 친일내각에서 친로파(親露派)정권이 수립되는 등 나라의 일이 어지럽게 되자 우국열에 불타는 청년 이승만은 젊은 동지들의 앞장을 서서 민중을 계몽하고 `독립협회'의 주요 멤버로 신문을 발간한다.

In 1894, the Choseon Dynasty came to have the atmosphere of national decay. A 20-year-old Lee Seung-man (starring Kim Jin-Kyu) who used to focus on the traditional Chinese literature enters Bae-Jae Hakdang (school) and studies hard in order to get a modern education for his country and people. As the pro-Russian group takes power in pro-Japanese government and the country falls into utter confusion, Seung-man takes the lead in boosting the spirit of independence as a member of the Independence Association: He initiates information campaigns for pubic enlightenment and publishes newspapers.
