줄거리

북에서 내려온 사람들이 모여 사는 해방촌 산비탈. 양말, 만년필 등 보잘 것 없는 품팔이를 하며 하루하루를 근근이 살아가는 그들 가정은 부모 세대와 자식 세대간의 갈등의 골이 깊다. 홀아비인 ‘털보’ 김덕삼(김승호)은 아들 거북(신성일)에게 미군부대에 들어가라고 강권하고, 옆집에 사는 옥매(황정순)는 딸 복순(엄앵란)에게 억지로 신고산타령을 가르쳐 기생이 되라고 한다.

At Haebangchon Village at the slope of a hill, there live people together who come south over the border. As they eke out their living through trifling jobs, there arise conflicts between parents and children. A father named Kim Deok-sam (starring Seung-Ho Kim), a beard man, forces his son Geo-book (starring Shin Seong-Il) to join the American army. Ok-mae (starring Hwang Jeong-Sun) in the next door forces her daughter Bok-soon (starring Uhm Aeng-ran) to become a bar girl, teaching her Shin-go-san Ballad (Korean traditional song).
