줄거리

호텔 문지기 노인(에밀 야닝스)은 대도시 베를린의 고급호텔의 앞을 지키는 자신의 모습에 자부심이 크다. 그러나 그는 늙고 약하다는 이유로 화장실 접객안내원으로 강등되고 이에 괴로워한다. 20년대 독일영화를 대표하는 작품으로 에밀 야닝스의 호연이 두드러지는 작품이다. <마부>나 <박서방>의 김승호와 비교해보는 것도 재미있을 것이다.

The old doorman of a hotel is proud of himself as he guards a famous hotel in metropolitan Berlin. He is demoted to washroom as attendant, as he is considered too old and infirm to be the image of the hotel. He tries to conceal his demotion from his friends and family, but to his shame, he is discovered. This film is the representative German film in the 1920s with Emil Jannings’s best acting. It will be fun if you compare Jannings with Seung-Ho Kim in A Coachman and Mr. Park.
