줄거리

이미 1940년에 <비스마르크>라는 작품을 만든 바 있는 리베나이너 감독이 에밀 야닝스를 비스마르크 역으로 캐스팅하여 새롭게 만든 영화다. 1888년 황제로 등극한 빌헬름 2세(베르너 힌츠)는 대외정책에 있어서 총리 비스마르크(에밀 야닝스)와 의견 다툼이 잦다. 황제는 비스마르크의 강한 성격에도 불편함을 느낀다. 나치 치하에서 만들어졌지만 프로파간다적인 전형성에서 다소 벗어나 있는 작품이다.

This film which starred Emil Jannings for Bismarck is a remade film by director Liebeneiner who created Bismarck in 1940. Emperor Wilhelm II who ascended the throne in 1888 often has conflicts with Chancellor Bismarck (Emil Jannings) as for the foreign policy. Emperor feels uncomfortable with Bismarck’s strong personality. This film is far from the archetype of propaganda films even though it was produced in the Nazi period.
