줄거리

나치가 총애한 감독 파이트 하를란의 출세작. 게르하르트 하우프트만의 <해뜨기 전>이 원작이지만 제작 당시 히틀러의 정책에 맞게 결말을 수정했다. 에밀 야닝스는 이 작품에서 오랜 기간 번영해 온 군수품 공장의 생산업자 마티아스 클라우센을 연기하면서 그 자신이 보일 수 있는 가장 가부장적인 역할을 탁월하게 소화해낸다.

This film brought Veit Harlan into prominence, who the Nazi favored. The original is Before Sunrise by Gerhart Hauptmann, but the director changed the ending part for Hitler’s policy at that time. Emil Jannings plays Matthias Clausen, the manufacturer of a war supplies factory with long prosperity. He reveals the most patriarchal role as outstandingly as he could present.
